Termites

Termites can cause extensive damage to the structure of buildings and in extreme cases warrant the closure of buildings, homes or commercial property until the relevant fumigation and repairs are completed.

If left untreated they can tunnel their way into your property, eating through wooden structures, support beams, floorboards, window frames and doors causing expensive repairs and potentially dangerous living conditions.

The termites will excavate the soil from under the home or building foundation, which could lead to cracks in your walls and the collapse of your home foundation.  Termites can be found across South Africa, but densely populated areas face a greater risk due to the large concentration of homes and buildings.

Termites can be treated in the following ways:

1. Pre-Construction Termite Treatment

Termiticide is applied to the soil during the construction phase of a building to prevent termites from entering the building.

2. Post Construction Treatment

1. Preventative

We have to dig a trench 450 mm deep around the foundation of the home. We then apply termiticide in the trenches, while we backfill the trench.

If we cannot dig a trench, we will then have to drill a hole every metre through the foundation.

2. Infestation treatment

Holes ± 400mm deep and 14mm in width, are drilled every 1-1.5m into the foundation around the exterior wall of the building.

A high-pressure pump is used to inject chemicals into the drilled holes.

Holes are sealed.

5 Year guarantee.

3. Harvester Termites

This species is a notorious pest of pastures and grassed areas, drought and improper management due to overgrazing contribute to this as the termites prefer to colonize bare ground.

The main foraging time of the worker is at night in summer and during the day in winter.  The harvester termites snip off dry grass stems and carries it to their nests.  The grass is stored and eventually consumed.  They often work in daylight and overcast conditions.  The harvester termites use the hay they have collected to insulate their domed nests, some of these domes are exclusive storage sheds and are not inhabited.

Treatment is not the same as subterranean termites.  A surface treatment should be performed on the grass surface area and behind skirting inside structures.
